Tamarillo Other Also called a "tree tomato", tamarillo is in the nightshade family. The flesh is red with plentiful small seeds, and is sweet/tangy, tasting like a cross between a tomato and a kiwifruit (or guava or passionfruit, depending on who you ask). The skin is red or yellow, bitter, and not eaten. Subtropical but thrives in temperate areas if protected from frost. Trees are very fast growing and can reach 2-3 metres tall in 18months to 2 years. They are also short-lived and survive only 7 - 12 years.
Tardif de Bordaneil Apricot Medium to large fruit with a pronounced seam, greenish yellow colour with a light red flush. Skin is a bit thick. Flesh is orange, juicy, coarse textured, melting. Semi-clingstone. Reported to be tolerant to rust disease.
