Description
You’ve probably heard of “green manure”, but do you really know what it is? Do you know the difference between a green manure, a cover crop and a living mulch? This course will demystify this and so much more!
Green manures have long been used to improve soil structure and water-holding capacity, build the natural fertility system and quickly add vital organic matter to the soil. In fact, they are one of the most effective tools for turning problem soil (for example soils that are too sandy, contaminated or have too much clay) into a fertile growing medium.
In this module you’ll learn how to choose the right mix of plants, how to prepare the soil, and when to plant. It includes plant lists and suggestions for sourcing high quality organic seed.
What’s included in this module:
- Unit 1: Grow an autumn green manure crop to improve your soil (article)
- Unit 2a: Plant a spring green manure crop (article)
- Unit 2b: Choose the perfect understorey plants for spring (activity)
