A large, green skinned dessert apple. A slight blush can develop on the skin. Flesh is greenish-cream, crisp, juicy and sweet with excellent flavour. Cooks pale yellow with pieces staying whole.

Origin
Bred in Japan in 1949 as a family dessert apple. Parents are Golden Delicious x Indo.
Pollination
Pollinated by pollination group 3, i.e. Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Fuji, Gala, Akane, Jonathan - however Mutsu is a triploid, so will not donate pollen to any other varieties.
Chill Hours
Medium-low chill, estimated 500 chilling hours.
Blossom Time
Mid-season.
Harvest Time
Ripens late season.
Production Notes
Frost tender. Stores well. Can crop very heavily so needs good thinning. Tree is vigorous, spur-bearing. USDA Zones 4-8.
Disease Susceptibility
Can suffer from bitter pit, so needs nutritious soil with plenty of calcium.
