Fruit Description
Medium sized fruit with white flesh that has a greenish tinge. The apples are very sweet and have a spicy flavour. They are greenish-yellow coloured with a red blush (the photo depicts the red cultivar called 'Red Dougherty'. Some russeting.
Common Uses
Eating and cooking. Keep extremely well off the tree.
Origin
An Australian bred apple, which was grown mainly for export to the United Kingdom. A red coloured mutation called 'Red Dougherty' was discovered around 1930 in Twyford, New Zealand. 'Red Dougherty' is an ancestor of the 'Splendour' apple.
Pollination
Pollinisers unsure, but probably pollinised by other diploid varieties that flower at the same time, likely to be Akane, Bonza, Cox, Delicious, Fuji, Gala, Granny Smith, James Grieve, Jonathan, Kidd's Orange Red, Lady Williams, Pink Lady, Sturmer Pippin
