Fruit is medium-large, flushed red, and striped. Flavour is subacid, flesh tends to be soft.
Common Uses
Dual purpose cooking and eating. Highly regarded as a baked apple, and makes excellent flavoured juice.
Origin
A heritage apple from the USA, 1848.
Pollination
Diploid, quite self-fertile, however may benefit from being planted with another late flowering variety, e.g. Brown Snout, Court Pendu Plat, Northern Spy, Ohio Red Rome.

Production Notes
Tip bearing (some sources say spur bearing so may be both). Will grow in USDA zones 4 to 8. Tree is moderately vigorous, spreading and has a willowy habit.

Moderately susceptible to black spot (apple scab), powdery mildew, and cedar apple rust
