Cleft grafting fruit trees

Cleft grafting is a simple and effective technique that comes into its own when there’s a mismatch between the size of the grafting wood and the tree you’re grafting onto.

Available!

Description

The grafting method you should choose in any situation depends partly on the size of the tree you’re grafting onto. Cleft grafting is perfect for larger rootstocks, or smaller scion wood. It can be used in a wide variety of situations, such as adding a polliniser limb to a mature tree that flowers well but doesn’t set fruit, or a tree where the variety has died back and been taken over by a vigorous rootstock.

This course will give you the confidence to know when to choose this technique, how to make the specific cuts involved, and how to successfully seal your graft.

What’s included in this course:

  • Unit 1: Master cleft grafting (article)
  • Unit 2: Master cleft grafting (video)
