Bellefleur means "beautiful flower", so this tree will be a beautiful addition to your garden in spring. This variety is mostly known as a cooker, but can be quite eaten fresh as well. Fruit is firm, red striped, crisp, sweet, and aromatic. Stores very well. The apples are often described as ‘knobby’, but are quite lovely to look at, with burgundy coloured stripes over a yellow background..
Common Uses
It can be eaten as a dessert apple (though it has a tendency to be a bit dry), but it comes into its own as a cooking apple. It appears in many traditional Dutch dishes such as apple tarts and hete bliksem - literally “hot lightning,” a dish of mashed potatoes and apples.
Origin
Very old heritage variety from Flanders, late 1700s. others include the Single, Double, French, Drenthe, Red, Batavian, and Oxhead. Won an Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society (UK) in 1901. Had disappeared from commercial production in Eur

Diploid. Should be pollinised by Dabinett, Democrat, King of the Pippins, Michelin, Peasgood Nonesuch, or some crab apples.
