Medium to large fruit, purple-black skin, hearth shaped, dark red flesh. Freestone. Excellent flavour. Known to be good for bottling.

Possibly from ‘Doris’ plum (yellow-flesh) developed in America by Luther Burbank. Cross bwn seedling French cherryplum (Prunus cerasifera) and Chinese Prunus triflora. Established in NZ in 1890s.

Billington (best), Duff’s Early Jewel, Elephant Heart, Santa Rosa, Omega. Can be difficult to pollinate.
