Snow (also called Fameuse, Pomme de Neige. Similar variety is Lady in the Snow)
Fruit Description
Small to medium, bright red skin that shines up beautifully. The flesh is pure white giving it the name of Snow apple (whereas Lady of the Snow has a pink tinge). It is an ancestor to the McIntosh variety. Mild flavour, slight perfume.

Introduced to the United States via Canada pre 1730, this variety actually originated in France in the 1600's and is one of the oldest varieties on record. Because it produces seedlings that are close to 'true to type' this variety was introduced by early

Diploid, not self-fertile. Will be fertilised by most crab-apples, Pink Lady, Sundowner, Granny Smith and Jonathan.

Production Notes
Tends to be a biennial bearer, therefore needs thinning every year. Grows in zones 4-9, likes a temperate climate but tolerates cold winters to -34C. Spur bearer. Tree is vigorous, and a good cropper.
Disease Susceptibility
Good overall disease resistance, some resistance to bacterial canker, very resistant to powdery mildew, some resistance to fireblight. Moderate resistance to black spot (apple scab)
