Depending on your climate zone, frosts or even snow are possible at this time of year, unless you’re in a more temperate or subtropical zone. Either way, it’s easy to get fooled into thinking you have a quiet time ahead, when in fact the approaching winter can be a time of great activity in the garden or orchard, particularly if you’ll be planting trees or grafting.

It’s the perfect time to review your irrigation system if you have one – and consider installing one if you don’t! Once trees have become dormant (i.e., lost their leaves), it’s also time to start thinking about winter pruning.

Happy harvests!
