Depending on your climate, mid-spring may see your season already well under way, or if you’re in a cooler zone your trees may only start to flower at this time. Either way, it’s definitely a time to stay alert! As trees move through the flowering phase, you can start to see the success (or failure) of your efforts to keep them disease free. As tiny fruit starts to emerge from the flowers, fruit thinning will be on the agenda.
At this time of year, taking 5 minutes (at least) each week to monitor your trees is time well spent – there’s much to be gained from just watching. And while your trees are still flowering, protecting them from disease with safe organic fungicides remains a priority.
Happy harvests!
