It’s almost time for planting fruit trees, so it’s important to know how to choose good trees from a nursery. Whether you’re aiming for complete fruit self-sufficiency or have a less ambitious goal, early winter is a great time to do some planning.
Outdoors, it’s full steam ahead with winter pruning, and it’s also a terrific time to learn more about one of your main soil helpers – earthworms! And while you’re focused on the dirt beneath your fruit trees, learning more about understorey plants and weeds will help you grow better fruit next season.
Though many pests and diseases are also dormant over winter (like your fruit trees), learning more about their life cycles will help to expose all the points at which they’re vulnerable.
Happy harvests!
