Guilds are a collection of plants (and maybe animals) that provide benefits for each other. Guilds cleverly bring together all elements that we normally consider in ecosystem design including plant form, height, diversity, properties and interrelationships, as well as the relationships between plants and animals. They are one of the key design elements we can borrow from permaculture to design the ideal ecosystem to  give our fruit trees everything they need – right at their feet!
