Green plantain plant with long, ribbed leaves growing in tall grass and vegetation

Not the large cooking banana, but the extremely common herb found in gardens, lawns, and roadsides throughout Australia, Europe, and Asia, plantain is also called ribwort, narrow-leafed ribwort, flat weed, common plantain, and lamb’s tongue. It has sometimes been called White Man’s Foot, from its habit of appearing as a weed following European settlement in foreign countries. The two most common types are Plantain major and minor.
